The Sandford School of Dance is a well established school in Bedford which offers the highest quality of training in a variety of dance styles. Originally established in 1953, it became The Sylvia Bebb School of Ballet & Theatre Arts in 1980 and since that date it has expanded substantially.

Sian Sandford was the senior assistant at the school for 19 years before becoming the Principal of Sandford School of Dance, teaching modern, jazz and tap and choreographing festival routines. This included group dances which have gone on to compete and win in the finals of the All England Dance Competition in London’s West End.

There are a vast range of classes that pupils can choose from, for the very young at just 2½ years old, right up to adults. We aim to provide a well disciplined and professional environment, yet with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere in which pupils can enjoy themselves and fulfil their individual potential.

RAD ballet, ISTD modern/tap/classical Greek, LAMDA speech & drama and the URDANG musical theatre syllabi, as well as jazz, hip hop, acrobatic arts, choir, singing and non-syllabus ballet classes are delivered by professional and experienced teachers.

Our popular dance, drama and musical theatre classes have seen current pupils being offered roles in recent musical film productions such as Matilda and Wonka, as well as live theatre including Carousel (Regents Park Open Air Theatre) Little Miss Sunshine (Arcola Theatre & UK tour) Frozen (Theatre Royal Drury Lane) and Mary Poppins (Prince Edward Theatre).

Many former pupils have gone on to gain entry into top dance and musical theatre colleges to further their training in order to achieve a career in the performing industry. They have enjoyed performing worldwide as dancers and vocalists with many taking roles in musical theatre productions such as Grease, Mamma Mia and Top Hat.

Parents are able to watch their child’s classes at the end of every term and pupils are encouraged to take part in presentations and choreography competitions. Every child at the school has the opportunity to perform in the biennial show which is held at a large, modern theatre in Milton Keynes. There is also the opportunity to compete in numerous local dance festivals as part of the Sandford School of Dance Festival Team.

All of our teaching faculty are DBS checked. Our Safeguarding Children and Health & Safety policies are available upon request to Sian Sandford.
